Half Day Afternoon and Dusk Itinerary
Stage 1: It all starts at 12pm midday…
As we wait for the sun to go down and become more dramatic and intriguing in the late afternoon - we use this midday-afternoon time to become hyper-focused on the interior details, fit and finishes of the home.
12pm - 3:30pm is when we are most pedantic and OCD toward the styling, staging and décor throughout the home. This time slot is typically used for all interior imagery; kitchen, dining, living, bedrooms and bathrooms - where there is a wealth of time to hone in on the design.
For this reason, the morning leading up to the photoshoot is ideally spent decluttering and removing any items that are not desired in the final images. It’s also a great idea to remove personal items such as family photo’s - as this will improve the longevity of the images.
Here are some examples of this portion of the day:
Stage 2: 3:30pm until sunset and beyond…
For a significant proportion of homes and projects, this angular early afternoon light is the most conducive for compelling and powerful imagery.
The images at this time, from about 3:30pm till sometimes as late as 7pm - are typically wide angle - primarily exterior shots that show the relationship of the entertaining spaces, yard, façade and how they connect to the interior. Bedrooms and bathrooms at this stage won’t really be touched or approached at all - so occupants can mostly go about their afternoon/evening undisturbed.
Here are some examples of those final images taken at this time:

The smaller finer details and staging are not the priority here - and instead the focus is on the larger brush strokes. Staging and styling at this stage is still somewhat important, however the very pedantic finessing of the small details that occurred earlier in the day.
